Suggested Itinerary

Day 1
Kilcoy Craft Market exterior

Your Somerset escape begins in Kilcoy, the perfect place to stretch your legs and stock up on supplies before settling in by Lake Somerset.

You can grab your morning caffeine fix and some quick bites from Rustic Brew Café before wandering through the Kilcoy Craft Market to browse for unique local goodies. A stop at Yowie Park is mandatory to let the kids burn off some energy.

Once you’re loaded with snacks and supplies, head to the NRMA Lake Somerset Holiday Park to check in. Whether you’re in a caravan, tent, glamping setup or in a cosy lakeside cabin, this spot is pure family gold with its playground, mini-golf and seasonal kids’ programs and activities. You can settle in for the night with a peaceful lakeside walk and BBQ dinner as the sun sets over the water.

Day 2
Caravan set up behind a car at the NRMA Lake Somerset Holiday Park beside the lake. It is a sunny day with blue sky, green grass and a couple of gum trees either side of the caravan.

Wake up to glass-like water views and let the kids enjoy a full morning of swimming, paddling or boating on Lake Somerset. It’s an easy, unhurried start to the day that makes the most of the park’s beautiful location.

Late in the morning, hop in the car for a short scenic drive to Linville for a classic country lunch at the Linville Hotel, where you’ll find cold drinks, massive meals and laid-back charm.

The Linville Store and Café also has a great selection of locally made treats. Stock up on cakes and slices to take back to camp.

After your pub lunch, head back to your camp at Lake Somerset for more water sports or a family bike ride along the shoreline. Squeeze in a round of mini-golf or relax at your campsite. End the day by toasting marshmallows over a campfire and stargazing under the clear country sky.

Day 3
Esk Caravan Park sun peaking over mountain

After breakfast, pack up and head to Esk Caravan Park, one of Queensland’s most awarded regional caravan parks and a favourite for families. The park itself is full of fun activities, but make sure to explore the charming town of Esk by browsing its boutique shops. You can enjoy a pub lunch on the deck of The Grand Hotel, then visit Ottaba llamas for coffee and the chance to meet the resident llamas, an experience the whole family will love.

If you prefer to stay on level ground, you can ride the Esk section of the famous Brisbane Valley Rail Trail before heading back to the park for a refreshing swim. For a dinner highlight, you can cook your own pizzas in the park’s communal pizza oven.

Day 4
Family waterplay at Lake Wivenhoe

Your final full day in Somerset is all about making the most of the great outdoors. If you have brought kayaks or canoes, you can drop into the Brisbane River for a gentle paddle adventure surrounded by nature.

For more adrenaline-filled fun, head back to Lake Somerset for waterskiing, jet skiing, waterboarding and tubing, or take the relaxed approach with fishing and swimming at Lake Wivenhoe. Spend your afternoon with a family picnic by the water’s edge before slowly packing up camp and soaking in those last rolling hill views as the trip winds down. You can enjoy one final Somerset sunset before preparing for the journey home.
