If you are looking for a connection to Somerset, along with great recommendations from locals, make sure to drop into one of our Visitor Information Centres.

Drop into the accredited Fernvale Explore Centre or the Kilcoy Explore Centre and chat to our friendly volunteers about the region. Our volunteers have a wealth of knowledge and are ready to assist you with information on where to stay, things to see and do in, places to eat and drink and any other questions you might have about Somerset.

Fernvale Visitor Information Centre 

Fernvale Explore Centre

Conveniently located along the Brisbane Valley Highway, the Fernvale Explore Centre provides a warm welcome to those travelling to the Somerset region.

The Fernvale Futures Complex, which houses the accredited visitor information centre, was opened in September of 2006 and was built on the site of the old Fernvale Railway Station, in a style reminiscent of the old station house.

Visitors are greeted by a friendly group of volunteer tourism ambassadors who’s local knowledge and home-grown tales will sure to delight both domestic and international guests. During your visit you may collect a wide range of free maps, brochures and flyers to help you prepare for your adventure through the Somerset region.

Opening hours:

Monday to Friday: 9am – 5pm
Weekends and Public Holiday 9am – 2pm
Closed New Year’s Day, Good Friday, Christmas Day and Boxing Day

Kilcoy Visitor Information Centre 

Kilcoy Explore Centre 

Conveniently located at 41 Hope Street, next to Yowie Park, the Kilcoy Explore Centre provides a warm welcome to those travelling to the Somerset region.

The accredited visitor information centre was opened in December 2014 and provides tourist information along with an environmental interpretive centre and an 80-seat theatrette. Visitors are greeted by a friendly group of volunteers who, with their local knowledge, will help you to explore, stay and play in Somerset.

During your visit take the time to explore the environmental interpretive centre, see the original Yowie statue on display and learn about the region using the interactive touch screen displays, watch a documentary in the theatrette, or collect a variety of brochures and maps to help you prepare for your travels.

Monday to Friday: 9am – 5pm
Weekends and Public Holiday 9am – 2pm
Closed New Year’s Day, Good Friday, Christmas Day and Boxing Day

Accessibility Information:

  • Accessible car park with shared space adjacent to driver’s side, no tactile ground surface indicators
  • Building access via concrete path, 2100mm wide
  • Door width 1150mm, automatic door 
  • Carpeted throughout
  • Ramp to theatrette (steps to tiered seating, with flat wheelchair access in the middle of the theatre)
  • Bathrooms:
    • Accessible bathroom – doorway 800mm, handrails provided, baby change table
    • Female bathroom: doorway 800mm,  1 Ambulant stall with handrail  
    • Male bathroom: doorway 800mm, 1 Ambulant stall with handrail

Esk Visitor Information Centre

Esk Visitor Information Centre

Conveniently located along Ipswich Street, the Esk information centre provides a warm welcome to those travelling to the Somerset region.

Visitors are greeted by a friendly group of volunteers who, with their local knowledge, will help you to explore, stay and play in Somerset.

Opening hours:
Tuesday to Friday: 9am – 4pm
Saturday 10am – 2pm
Closed Sunday, Monday and Public Holidays

Accessibility Information:

  • Accessible car park with shared space adjacent, no tactile ground surface indicators
  • Building access via ramp (1000mm wide), or a small set of 3 stairs
  • Door width 800mm, manual door – door is kept open during opening hours
  • Accessible bathroom, doorway 800mm, handrails provided, no change table
