Somerset is the perfect paradise escape for those who love a splashing good time! The region is home to the Brisbane River Canoe Trail and the stunning freshwater lakes of Lakes Somerset, Wivenhoe and Atkinson, perfect for boating, canoeing, kayaking or fishing.

Brisbane River Canoe Trail

Whether you’re canoeing or kayaking, the Brisbane River Canoe Trail offers scenic paddling experience through peaceful country landscapes. The Canoe Trail is a relaxed way to experience the region from the water, with shallow rapids and sweeping bends with fast-moving waters for those more experienced.

Launch points along the river trail include Lowood Bend Reserve, Twin Bridges, Savages Crossing, Burtons Bridge and Kholo Crossing.

Lake Somerset

Lake Somerset is a hub of activity perfect for those who don’t mind sharing the water with motorised boats and water sports. If you seek a mix of calm paddling and high-energy fun, Lake Somerset is the perfect choice. 

At Lake Somerset, you can enjoy canoeing, kayaking and rowing alongside waterskiing, jet skiing, waterboarding and tubing.

Public boat ramps are found at the Spit, Kirkleagh and Westvale Road, making lake access easy.

Lake Wivenhoe

 If you prefer a quieter, more peaceful location, Lake Wivenhoe is the perfect alternative.

Here you can enjoy canoeing, kayaking, rowing, sailing and fishing. Motorised boats are allowed with certain speed limits and engine restrictions, but for the adrenaline seekers, waterskiing, jet skiing, wakeboarding and tubing are not allowed – these can be enjoyed at nearby Lake Somerset.

Paddle craft can be launched from Hamon Cove, Logan Inlet, O’Shea’s Crossing, Branch Creek, Atkinson’s Crossing, Billies Bay, while motorised boats must only be launched from the boat ramps at Hamon Cove, Billies Bay and Logan’s Inlet.

Lake Atkinson

Lake Atkinson blends peaceful scenery with adventure, making it popular with paddlers, fishers and thrill seekers.

On Lake Atkinson, you can enjoy canoeing, kayaking, rowing, sailing, fishing, motorised boats, water skiing, jet skiing, wakeboarding and tubing. It’s a great choice for fishermen, nature lovers and those who seek the thrill of water sports.

The boat ramp is located at the Day Use Area, with easy access to explore.
